Bus Boycott
Myah Freeman’s art piece “May 28th, 1956 was inspired by the Tallahassee Bus Boycott. The Tallahassee Bus Boycott was a pivotal event in Tallahassee's desegregation history. Wilhelmina Jakes and Carrie Patterson, students at FAMU, were detained when they refused to move from the bus's whites-only seating area. Installed as part of the City's Artful Infrastructure. Myah's artwork honors the brave women who rode the bus, CK Steele, a preacher and civil rights activist who helped organize the bus boycott, and Governor Leroy Collins, who supported desegregation in Tallahassee.
